Three Ways to Winterize Your Skin Care Routine
It’s the time of year when the temperature and humidity dip down, and indoor heating, steamy showers, and dry air turn up. Just like your wardrobe, your skin care routine needs a few adjustments for the change in season. Skin can become dry, flaky, cracked, tight, sensitive, itchy, or all of the above – but with these simple tips, it will be easy for your skin to “weather” the winter.
Mask Before You Moisturize: Layering isn’t just about sweaters, jackets, and scarves. Adding layers of moisture to your skin care routine will help protect your face from winter’s chill. One way to do this is by inserting thirst-quenching sheet masks into your routine, 1-2 times per week, between cleansing and your final layer of moisturizer (if you follow any or all of the 10-step Korean Beauty skin care regimen, chances are you already use sheet masks at least once a week, so just bump up the frequency). Applied for 15 to 20 minutes, sheet masks creates a barrier over the serum it’s drenched in, allowing your skin to really soak up the formula. It’s also important to note what type of material your sheet masks are fashioned from – ours is a silky luxe Cupra fabric that allows for deeper-penetrating and even absorption, and stays firmly and comfortably in place during application.
To beat that dry, tight feeling over the wintry months, and provide a dry skin treatment, we recommend our Ultra-Nourishing Moisture Mask to moisturize, replenish and plump, Deep Healing Mask to boost skin elasticity and health, and Aqua Ultra-Moisturizing Mask, which is rich in powerful hydrating humectants that are gentle on the skin. In addition to other natural marine and botanical ingredients, these sheet masks also feature one or both of the clean beauty, super-hydrating ingredients Polyglutamic Acid (PGA), a dynamic peptide that delivers intense hydration, with the ability to hold up to 10,000 times its weight in moisture and 10x’s more powerful than Hyaluronic Acid (HA), and Sodium Hyaluronate, science’s water-soluble salt form of HA that can retain 5X as much moisture as HA – so skin is sure to look and feel hydrated, dewy, and glowing even in the dark of winter!
Go Cool for Cleansing: Although hot water is temping when the air is icy, opt for cool water when cleansing. Heated water can actually rob skin of natural moisture and oils, drying it out and even damaging its surface. So when you’re at the sink washing your face, make sure the water is a cool, comfortable temperature!
Boost Hydration, On-Demand: At home, in the car, or anywhere indoors, when the air outside is frigid, the heat inside is blasting – which can make your skin feel thirsty and irritated due to the lack of moisture in the air. Keeping a hydrating facial mist on-hand, as a dry skin treatment, will help skin feel refreshed, anytime and anyplace. It’s important to note that water-based facial mists can actually exacerbate dry skin – after hitting your skin, water evaporates quickly in dry air and will take some moisture along with it. A gel base will help anchor the moisture. Our DEEP HYDRATING Aloe Gel Mist gives skin a burst of intense hydration with two forms of aloe, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water and Aloe Vera Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, and more to restore moisture to skin.
By making these small (yet easy) changes in your clean skincare routine, you’ll be able to put your best face forward this winter!
