‘Tis the season to travel, but the modes of transportation, fluctuating climates, and even the inevitable stress and changes to your routine can wipe that holiday glow right off your face!
Dry skin texture, oil slicks, breakouts, and irritation are all typical during trips of any distance and duration. The recycled air, low humidity, and low air pressure in airplanes can cause your skin to become dehydrated, flaky, or oily, and also make your face and eyes puffy. These skincare woes can also happen depending on the temperature and humidity of your destination. And, travel-related stress can send your oil production into blemish-causing overload, plus trigger inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. To keep your skin merry and bright, here are our top 4 holiday travel skincare essentials:
- Moisturizer: Moisturizers make the best holiday travel companion. Whether you’re in-flight or on the road, or the change in weather is hot or cold, a moisturizer will help shield your natural skin barrier against dehydration, excess oil, and germs – the culprits of flaky, blemished, and lackluster skin. Our own moisturizing RESTORE Propolis Collagen Gel features ultra-hydrating and protective Propolis and Honey; Hydrolyzed Collagen to keep skin soft and supple; and even Niacinamide for a brightening boost. One of our favorite travel tips is to smooth your moisturizer on with a Rose Quartz facial roller to stimulate blood circulation and de-puff mid-trip, so you can step out of the plane, train, or automobile fresh-faced and radiant.
- Face Mists: Another holiday travel must-have, this multi-tasker hydrates, seals-in moisture, cools, soothes, and reduces oil on-demand, with just a spritz. It comes in especially handy on planes and heated car rides, which are both super-dehydrating and irritating to your skin. Face mists even set your makeup (and streamline your packing list). Our gel-based DEEP HYDRATION Aloe Gel Mist includes a soothing duo of Aloe Leaf Water and Aloe Extract; Hydrolyzed Collagen for moisture and elasticity; and Cica, Witch Hazel, and Green Tea to repair, comfort, and strengthen your skin. It also magically transforms from a gel to a mist so it always feels light and non-sticky, meets the TSA’s 100ml rule for air travel so you can bring it on board, and it’s light, refreshing scent is one your row-mates will appreciate (especially over those yucky cabin smells).
- Sheet Masks: There’s no time like travel time for a sheet mask! Sheet masks are a convenient way to combat dry skin and breakouts while you’re journeying to and from, and also throughout your holiday. They’re drenched in serum, lay comfortably on top of your skin, and deliver a concentrated treatment for 15 to 20 minutes. Individually wrapped, and easy to pack or stash on your carry-on, they’re particularly ideal for air travel on clean, makeup-free faces because they help prevent in-flight moisture loss so you step off the runway looking refreshed. A different sheet mask can even be applied every day of your trip, depending on what your skin needs. Our favorite sheet masks for travel include the Aqua Collagen Mask, perfect for replenishing lost moisture and bounce with Deep Sea Water and Hydrolyzed Collagen; Honey Glow Mask, which helps reduce blemishes and irritation to restore clear, radiant skin with purifying and soothing Honey, Aloe, and Green Tea; and Aloe Soothing Mask, which reduces redness, irritation, and puffiness with comforting Aloe and moisturizing Hydrolyzed Collagen. There’s also our 7-Day Skin Care System, which includes a set of 7 all-star masks for the most common skin concerns.
- Travel Sizes: There’s no reason to disrupt your daily routine just for holiday travel. Look for your favorite products in smaller sizes, so you don’t need to shake things up (which your skin might find irritating). Travel-friendly sizes also lighten your load, and can go in your carry-on bag as long as they meet TSA requirements. We’ve “minified” some of our celebrity-loved best-sellers into 20oz and 30oz sizes for two brand-new travel skincare sets: RESTORE Mini Set and CLEANSE & GLOW Mini Set, which both come with reusable bags. They both include our emollient and pore-purifying NOURISH Oil Cleanser, replenishing REFRESH Purifying Cleanser, and skin-smoothing GLOW Exfoliating Soft Peel. RESTORE Mini Set also throws RESTORE Propolis Collagen Gel into the skin-caring mix, while CLEANSE & GLOW Mini Set includes a terrycloth headband.
So, before you jet off for your holiday adventures, make sure you’re prepared with these skincare essentials so you can “let it glow” while you’re on-the-go!
