Apricots may be in-season during the summer months, but the skin-caring benefits of Apricot Kernel Oil can be enjoyed all year round! Scientifically named Prunus Armeniaca, Apricot Kernel Oil’s skin care resumé dates back centuries across the globe, including Armenia, Rome, India, and China. This plant-based, nutrient-rich oil is also a favorite of the time-honored, world-famous Korean skin care ritual due to its moisturizing, anti-aging, and skin barrier-boosting benefits. Here are the top 3 things you need to know about Apricot Seed Oil.
1. It delivers a cocktail of vitamins. Apricot Kernel Oil contains Vitamin A, an excellent source of skin health-enhancing beta carotene, and Vitamin E, an anti-aging superhero. These vitamins are both packed with antioxidants, and together help strengthen and protect your skin barrier by stimulating cell turnover, repairing damage, improving elasticity, preventing moisture loss, and protecting against environmental stresses and damage. Apricot Kernel Oil also includes free radical-fighting Vitamin C and Vitamin K, which helps reverse dark circles.
2. It’s filled with fatty acids. About half of an Apricot Kernel is composed of oil, and almost all of that oil is comprised of fatty acids - emollients that are essential in keeping skin moisturized, supple, and feeling and looking youthful. Omegas 3 and 6, which come from Linoleic Acid, have soothing, repairing, brightening, moisture-sealing, and anti-inflammatory properties, while Omega 9, sourced from Oleic Acid, helps plump and hydrate your skin. Apricot Oil also includes Stearic Acid, which helps soften and smooth skin texture, and moisture-locking Palmitic Acid.
3. It’s user-friendly. Many people have the misconception that oil is heavy, clogs your pores, encourages blemishes, and feels greasy and uncomfortable on your skin. It’s actually the opposite. Light and non-greasy, Apricot Kernel Oil absorbs quickly and deeply into your skin, helping to keep it moisturized longer. It’s also great for all skin types, including oily and sensitive, and soothing for skin conditions such as eczema. Considered mildly comedogenic in skin care, when blended with other ingredients like Argan Oil, Grapeseed Oil, and Omegas, it dilutes any pore-clogging opportunities to low-comedogenic status and becomes suitable for all skin types.
These are just a few of the reasons why Apricot Kernel Oil is one of the active ingredients in our new NOURISH Oil Cleanser, a low-comedogenic oil-based cleanser suitable for all skin types that can be used as for the first step in K-Beauty’s famous double-cleanse regimen or as-desired. Apricot Kernel Oil is one of the 8 essential oils we’ve chosen for our signature oil-cleansing formulation, and it works in tandem with Grapeseed Oil, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, and Vitamin E to melt away makeup, sebum, pollutants, and other pore-clogging impurities to leave skin clean, replenished, moisturized, and soft.
Apricot Kernel Oil is a sweet addition to any skin care regimen, so try giving your skin a taste of its many benefits!
