5 Moisture-Boosting Steps to Winterize Your Skin Care Routine

The air is cooling, the humidity’s dropping, and we’re starting to layer up with sweaters, jackets, and other cold-weather gear. When it comes to winter, layering-up isn’t just about your wardrobe. Adding layers of moisture to your skin care routine will help protect your face from winter’s chill. That’s because indoor heat, dry air, and steamy showers are responsible for some of this season’s biggest skincare complaints: dry, flaky, and/or cracked texture, itching and sensitivity, and even that tight feeling can all be triggered by moisture loss. Layering these easy moisturizing steps into your skincare routine will help your skin “weather” the winter!

  1. Double-Cleanse: Stripping skin of its natural moisture, which is essential in protecting your natural skin barrier, often starts at the skink. Some cleansers are made with ingredients that not only cleanse away debris, but also your skin’s essential moisture. K-Beauty’s double cleanse is a moisture-preserving face-washing method: using an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser rinses all types of impurities from both your pores and skin surface, while maintaining moisture. Our own NOURISH Oil Cleanser, formulated with 8 makeup-melting, pore-cleansing oils including Apricot Kernel Oil and Argan Oil, and REFRESH Jade Purifying Cleanser, which purifies your skin with moisture-balancing ingredients like Clean Jade Water  (a high-alkaline water filtered through the fine white jade stratum deep within the mountains of Korea), are each formulated to thoroughly cleanse, and work together to keep skin supple.
  1. Exfoliate: To combat that leathery texture associated with winter, exfoliating will help refine your skin’s surface, slough off dead skin cells, remove lingering debris and discoloration, and brighten up winter’s dull complexion. Exfoliators made with harsh chemicals will actually exacerbate winter skin woes, so look for one made with gentle ingredients. Our GLOW Exfoliating Soft Peel is formulated with build-up dissolving Papaya Fruit enzymes to and plant-based Microcrystalline Cellulose, a gentle buffer, plus moisture-replenishing Sodium Hyaluronate and Lipidure® PMB.
  1. Apply a Sheet Mask: An easy – and relaxing – way to boost moisture is with a sheet mask 1-2 times per week prior to moisturizing. The 10-step K-Beauty skin care regimen encourages frequent masking, but if you are a novice, try starting out with 1-2 times per week. Sheet masks create a barrier that allows the serum to soak into the skin for a concentrated amount of time, about 15 to 20 minutes. To beat the winter skin blues, try our Ultra-Nourishing Moisture Mask to moisturize, replenish and plump; Deep Healing Mask to boost skin elasticity and health; and Aqua Ultra-Moisturizing Mask, which is rich in powerful hydrating humectants. Our masks also include other clean ingredients to amp-up hydration, like Polyglutamic Acid (PGA), a dynamic peptide that delivers intense hydration, with the ability to hold up to 10,000 times its weight in moisture and 10x’s more powerful than Hyaluronic Acid (HA), and Sodium Hyaluronate, a water-soluble salt form of HA that can retain 5X as much moisture as HA.
  1. Moisturize: To protect your skin barrier from the winter elements, while locking in moisture and the benefits of other products in your skincare routine, it’s important to moisturize. Look for a moisturizer enriched with active ingredients, like our RESTORE Propolis Collagen Gel . It’s formulated with protective and hydrating ingredients like Propolis, Hydrolyzed Collagen, and Honey, plus brighteners like Niacinamide to help repair, plump, soften, soothe, and brighten skin to maintain a glow during the dreary winter. To help your moisturizer penetrate even deeper, try using a Rose Quartz facial roller to smooth it on.
  1. Keep Skin Hydrated: Having a thirst-quenching facial mist on-hand will help battle the effects of steamy indoor heat and frigid air. While water-based facial mists can instigate drying by evaporating upon contact and sucking moisture out with it, a gel base will help keep moisture where it belongs. Our DEEP HYDRATING Aloe Gel Mist gives skin a hydrating spritz of with two forms of aloe, Aloe Leaf Water and Aloe Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, and other ingredients to restore moisture to your skin.

By layering your skincare routine with these 5 moisturizing steps, you’ll be able to “face” all the challenges that winter weather brings!
